Sites and Monuments in Northern Ireland

Archaeological Points of Interest

Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is a hotbed for archaeological activity. Because of the rich, continuous cultural history presented in the soil archaeologists flock to the area to conduct field research. Northern Ireland is also one of the preeminent areas wherein field schools are conducted. The rich and many-times undisturbed monuments are a great place for budding archaeologists to learn the ins and outs of excavation and the things one might be expected to find when studying in Western Europe. Many different periods are studied in and around Northern Ireland from the Roman Invasion to the troubles of the early 90s.
